We celebrate women, always, however, this week in particular, as International Women's Day took place on Monday, March 8, 2021. At Modern Match Lingerie, we decided we would highlight some of the amazing women sharing their truth on social media.
Ladies, ladies, ladies, aging is beautiful. You might not see it right now, but once you follow Joke Meier for a little while, you'll understand exactly why. She is the definition of empowerment when it comes to aging–which for some women can be a dreaded thought. What we love about Joke is that she shows you that it's a part of our evolution, as we grow within, we grow without as well. Time and age are beautiful when you look at them through the right lens. Without any further due, let us introduce you to 55-year-old Joke Meier of the Netherlands.
Modern Match (MM): You are the silver fox of women, stunningly beautiful, and so, so, SO inspiring! I haven't experienced it much myself, but I've heard older women complain about aging, and you're here, breaking the stigma around it! I love it! How did you know this was something you wanted to speak on and share with the world?
Joke: I am 55 years old and I notice that getting older is an issue to talk about. I want to take a positive approach to aging and let others see how I deal with it. I share pictures of my outfits and also my greying hair. I am proud of who I am now!
MM: It's so nice to hear you say that you're proud of who you are! We are too, babe–you're an inspiration! What are some of the challenges you've faced in sharing your journey with self-love?
Joke: You have to find a way to show that, where you stay yourself and feel good about it. They are both positive and negative topics. Stay with yourself and don't try to be someone else, you can't keep that up! There is only 1 like me and that's ok. I don't mean to be someone who just goes for the number of followers.
MM: I love that, there is only one like you–and you're awesome! How have you overcome some of the adversities thrown your way on social media for simply being you, and loving yourself?
Joke: I try to stay with myself and if you don't like that, you can follow someone else. I notice that my followers are like-minded, from which I also get my inspiration.
MM: Surrounding yourself with like-minded people is awesome. What is a piece of advice you'd give a woman struggling to find her voice?
Joke: Find a way to express yourself that is right for you, not what others are doing, but stick to yourself. Every woman expresses herself differently and fortunately we have that freedom! Other women are like a mirror. Follow the women you feel connected with and share your concerns / thoughts / beliefs. Especially aging is easier when we experience it together.
MM: It's been so great getting the opportunity to chat with you, Joke! Is there anything else you'd like to add?
Joke: Let's age together on a positive way. We deserve to be seen and heard. Let us inspire!!
